Hi, I'm new to discussion groups and threads but I just wanted to say this
worked for me as well. Thanks Dave M. Shame that microsoft don't publish an
easy to find solution though!

Navigating Ms can be a challenge, but I'm pleased to hear it got both of
you squared away.

I had this problem before and did the softwaredistribution rename thing--but
now i have the same problem
wonder what to do this time?

Since the rename procedure from the Ms KB worked for you once and is safe,
I'd suggest re-running that. You probably will have to use a different
name like SoftwareDistribution.old2 or else overwrite the original renamed
folder:

Far from being safe, there's an alternative solution here that I've not
personally used, and would probably not want to risk using since it's not
from Microsoft, but here's the link. It involves a batch file set up to
re-register many many system DLLs. Use it at your own risk, and with
caution:

Let us know how this second repair attempt works for you...

Thanks Dave--I did the rename again and it worked!! I deleted the
softwaredistribution.old and clicked on the original one again and renamed
it again.
