Vintage PE1 with P5S800-VM Motherboard

Thank you for reading my post.
I've had a world of trouble trying to load WXP on this system. It recognizes
my WD 80 gb hd in cmos but when I boot to the WXP cd to install the software
it spins up, says its checking my system and just gives me a black screen.
If I unplug the hard drive the cdrom will launch the installation software
but it won't with the hard drive plugged in. This hard drive works fine in
my p4p800-e system so it's not the hd. I had an old 1.6 gb conner lying
around so I stuck that in for the hell of it and it works. What the hell????
But here's another weird thing...My Computer shows 2 floppy drives A and B.
Neither of which work. Asus is no help at all. I see someone else had the
two floppy problem and they were told it was because they needed to change
the boot priority. Your kind assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a little update. I updated the onboard sis agp drivers and got rid of
the "B" floppy. So now I have just the "A" floppy but it still doesn't work.
