P5S800-VM and SATA hard disk

Hi,

I am having problem installing windows XP to the SATA hard drive, the
installation does not see the drive. I know that one can load the
SATA driver for the MB when asked to load extra drivers but I don not
know where to find the driver for this MB, I cant find it on the
support CD? Anyone know whether I can install Windows on the SATA
drive and what/where to get the SATA driver for P5S800-VM?

Thanks,
Conmeo

I think that link will expire, so:

You want raid303.zip

It's about 6MB, which is a bit excessive.

Need to extract it to a floppy, ok, don't extract it directly to a
floppy... extract somewhere and find:

RAID303/964_180/WinXP

And stick the contents of that folder on the floppy.

If it's not that folder, it's one of the others. I dunno :p

My guess would be, you need the IDE as opposed to the RAID driver.

There is the "IDE.zip" file on the Asus download page. It appears to
be the same as the IDE driver on the SIS download page. It is about
5MB in size and it is likely on your motherboard CD as well.

I also found SIS964 Southbridge drivers over here. There
is a floppy version (217KB) but older than the other drivers.
http://www.asrock.com/support/Download/dl_k7s8xep.htm

So maybe you could start your install with the Asrock floppy
image (because it is for a SIS964 southbridge) and then experiment
with a driver upgrade after that.

Purely a guess, as this is all very confusing.

Are you sure there isn't a "makedisk.exe" on your mobo CD ?

Use explorer to examine the CD and tunnel down through the
directory stucture. Or use the find command. Wherever you
find a copy of makedisk, that is likely the home of a floppy
image, suitable for making an install floppy. I think makedisk
does all the hard work for you. If you find one, give that a
try first.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the tips, I was looking for the SATA driver, it is the raid
driver it needs, there isnt a SATA driver as such for this mobo. The
raid driver is on the CD, I made a floppy with this raid driver, I have
now able to install windows using the F6 method.
