Viewing history from another PC

How can you view the history files on another PC? We can connect to the
file system of the other PC but are unsure of how to view the history files.
Can we copy the index.dat and load it into a 3rd party 'history viewer'?

I haven't used this free program for that purpose, but IEHistoryView
(NirSoft) http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/iehv.html can reportedly do this.
