Replace lost History files

I have lost some weeks of my History. I've been in the Date/Time Properties
and checked a date in 2003, I haven't changed the date of my Computer or
anything, yet all the history weeks after that 2003 date are now
missing.(weird...)
I have retreived some files and now want to copy them or import them somehow
in my Current History folder but it won't let me. (cos it's a system file i
guess?)
Anyone knows how to do that?
I have index.dat files for my Old History and want to make them my current
Hiostory.
Many thanks for help!

Look in your registry under HKEY_Current_User for subkey
Extensible Cache. If you don't have subkeys for each
History.IE5 subdirectory which contains an index.dat
you would have an explanation for your symptom.

AFAIK once the retention range is changed you have to build it up again.
I have never noticed any provision for restoring History which is lost by
reducing the retention range and then changing your mind and increasing
it to something which once had displayable data.

You might be lucky and discover that there is a .dll entry point which you
could run to cause the History to be reinitialized with the current complete
cache. I don't think even doing an IE Repair will do it though.
I.e., I don't think it will be one of the usual regsvr32 repairs.

The only other possibility that I can think of would be to manually edit
that Extensible Cache and its subkeys to try to make all your History
show again. Looks like there's lots of details to get right though.
If I was going to try it I'd try fixing/adding one subkey first and I'd use
a .reg file to Import all the changes in one go.

Please be sure that you know how to backup your registry and
recover with your backup if you are going to try any of these ideas.

Good luck
