USB power surge?

Has anyone sloved this problem I have?

I am geting a message that my USB port has a power surge even though no USB
devices are plug in. Does anyone know how to fix this as this message keeps
poping up again and again, real annouying?

The error should be resolved - but you can open each USB controller
in Device Manager and click "Advanced" (TAB). There you'll find an
option box "Don't Tell Me about USB errors". You can tic/check that
box and the error pop-ups will not be shown anymore.

The normal procedure is to open the details box for each USB Root
Hub in Device Manager. Click the Power (TAB). It will show you
the current draw ( 500mA Max ) on each Hub. Some devices such
as composite's ( Wireless Mice/Keyboards, Portable Media Players )
tend to draw near the limit of the hub. It's not uncommon to see a
momentary current spike when devices are plugged in.

It could be an indication of a failing motherboard as the USB is part
of the Chipset hardware ( Northbridge & Southbridge ). I would see
about updating your Chipset driver package. Usually based on the
type of CPU your computer uses ( Intel, VIA, nVidia ). An out of
date Chipset driver might be responsible for the issues you're having.

Ok I found the USB hup and it says 2 Unknow devise with unknown power but
there is nothing pluged in. What do you suggest I should do?

Right Click each entry and from the context menu choose "Uninstall".
Actually, there are probably more entries but XP masks them out. To
see 100% of all Plug-&-Play ( Including Phantoms ) you have to add
a System Environment variable:
DevMgr_Show_NonPresent_Devices
and set it's value = 1
Then in Device Manager, Click View & tic/check "Show Hidden Devices."
Once that is done, any items shown in the USB category that are in a
diminished tone or grayed out are either devices not current plugged in
or turned off or "Phantoms". Usually, it's safe to remove phantoms from
all categories except Sound and System Device categories.

Unknown device is how XP enumerates or lists a device that it cannot
match it's VID ( Identifier String to a matching driver .Inf file ) on your
system.

I uninstalled it but I do not understand the nexr thing you said to do about
the
System Environment. Where do you add it?
