Updates are still a wild ride!

Checked Windows Update site and saw there was a new definition. Went to WD>
About.... Ran the update and it said it was successful, however, it did not
change the number. Went to Add/Remove>Change, said it was successful, still
old number. My mistake here, although this shouldn't make a difference, is I
didn't allow it to scan. Went back to Update page ran it, said it was
successful, no change. Rebooted, no change. Ran Add/Remove>Change>Scan,
finally new file number!

This has been my experience for the last two updates I suspect, although I
didn't notice it last time around.

Updates via the program, or AutoUpdate, appear successful, but don't change
the UI in Defender (you should look at your WindowsUpdate history to see
this). However, when I went to MicrosoftUpdate, it immediately said
yes--there's the update, already downloaded, and when it applied it, the
home page updated properly--my History shows a total of 4 successful updates
to this same definition set.

So--for me, just going to WU/MU did the job, using the very same file
already downloaded. No futzing around with updates or uninstalls or wierd
GUID's, etc. Maybe 4th time was the charm--who knows? I did pass all my
logs along to Steve Dodson, but I suspect they don't tell him anything he
didn't know already--none of the 3 previous "successful" installs generated
an MSI installer log--the 4th one did.
