I got a pop up window in the right lower screen that looks like Antispyware
stating there was an update. I opened Antispyware and used the link for up
date which stated that I had the current version. Which do I believe?

There are both signature updates and program updates. As shown in Help > About
MSAS, the program update brings MSAS up to Version: 1.0.701, while the
signatures are current at Spyware Definition Version: 5779. If that's what
About MSAS shows, you're current.

He IS right, I had to go through the extensive validation etc etc to get to
a new build that expires july next year. SO: WHY is the build update not
automatically build-in and upates when I ask for new signatures or program
updates. You know by now that W2K doesn't has a light start-up session, it
takes ages even with 2048 RAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is an automatic update to the new build built into the program, and
active now. Folks have been getting the new build via automatic updates
from within the program for a bit more than a week now.

However, this process doesn't have a user-trigger. You can't trigger it via
keystrokes within the program as far as I know--you have to wait for the
prompt to appear, which is dependent on details that I'm not privy to--I
suspect server load among other things.

So--If you see the prompt, take advantage of it. If you are anxious, go
directly to the download site and get it directly:

I find that the Genuine Advantage check takes seconds on machines that have
already passed it once--so getting past that is a (nearly) one-time process.
It is true that the checking code is revised periodically, and needs to be
re-downloaded, which takes some time on a dialup, but the check itself
shouldn't take time.
