Unsolvable Problem: Something Is Overriding IE6 Print Margins

T

Terry Smerling

I can't figure out what application is interfering with my IE6 default print
margins. My OS is WinXP. According to my registry, the defaults are .75
inches in each of the four directions. However, according to IE6's page
setup the defaults are .166 in three directions and .333 in the fourth.
Changing the defaults in page setup does not work: the defaults immediately
revert back to .166 and .333. I can change the margins one print job at a
time by using print preview. I have searched my registry for .166 and .333
but found nothing. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled IE6. I have
uninstalled or disabled my pop-up stopper, Roboforms and Anti-Virus program
to no avail. For some reason the culprit also seems to impact HTML printing
in Outlook 2000 (another Microsoft program) but not in other browsers, such
as Opera, Netscape and Mozilla. I have two HP printers, a 1200 Laserjet and
2175 PSC; but I don't see how they are causing this problem. I have posted
this problem numerous times, but no one seems to have the answer. If anyone
can help me figure out a solution, I would be greatly obliged.

Is one of your two HP printers capable of printing borderless prints? If
so, I believe it would be that printer that is over-riding the defaults.
