Trouble with Printer Margins

T

Terry Smerling

Within certain applications, like IE6 and Outlook 2000, I can't change the
printer margins within Page Setup. The result is that when I print some
(but not all) web pages or e-mail messages, text is clipped off on the right
and left margins. I have two printers, an HP Laserjet 1200 and an HP PSC
2175. The problem is the same for both. For example in IE6 the defaults
are .25 inches for right and left and .166 inches for top and bottom. Each
time I attempt to double the margin sizes (i.e. .5, .5, .33, .33) and hit
OK, the margins immediately revert to the defaults. The only way I can
change the margins for any given print job is within Print Review. The
margin changes I make within Print Review last for that one print job only.
To further confuse the situation, it appears that the default margins for
IE6 set in the registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\PageSetup are .75 for all four margins. Because not all printing
jobs get clipped on the right and left margins, I surmise that the margins
created by the maker (e.g. website or e-mail correspondent) of the document
somehow control. I am thoroughly confused. HP tech advised me to try
different printer drivers, but that did not solve the problem. Any ideas or
suggestions would be appreciated.
