Unrecognised Database Format

My Clients Access 2000 database was working fine with my VB application and
Access 2003 until today when he got the message 'Unrecognised Database
Format' from both ( app and access 2003 ). He tried to use the 'Compact and
Repair' utility but the same error there. Can the DB be saved or is it gone
forever.

thx

It can possibly be saved. First, always work on a copy of the database.
Working on the original may make it impossible for a repair service to fix
it.

Download a copy of JetComp.exe:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;273956

Also have a look at the Microsoft KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;209137

Then have a look at Tony Toews' Access Corruption FAQ at:

http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm

for some suggestions. Unfortunately, some corruption cannot be fixed - you
may need to create a new database, import what can be salvaged, and recreate
the rest.

Although it's a paid service, Peter Miller does an outstanding job of saving
corrupt databases. Try this URL:

Are you using a MDE with the runtime ?.
If so you will get the same problem if there is different versions of Access
on the computer.
Specify the path to the runtime. This will solve your problem

That is not the "official Microsoft Access MVP site" but, instead, one that
will get you a tiresome succession of popups and attempts to install
_something_ on your machine (which I recommend you do not install). Don
ought to be ashamed of himself for harrassing innocent users like this.

The Access MVPs' site _is_ a good source of information. It is

I'm sorry if our resident "prankster" lured you off into the world of popups
and Viagra ads. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much we can do about
it except to warn you.

Yeah, and Iraq is all Don's fault too!

What about the California brush fires. Did he or did he not start those?

And I've heard a rumour that he's responsible for George Steinbrenner as
well.

Are you seriously contending that Don didn't post the phony MVP link, Lyle?

If know for certain that he did not, please tell us who did.

If you don't know, then find someone else to pick an argument with -- I
decline this opportunity to argue with you.

I'm never serious, Larry.

It was the other Don, Don Rumsfeld; he’s the master of miss-direction.

Seriously, Larry, I have no wish to argue with you.

LOL.

Good one, Lyle.

May you be blessed with a surfeit of willing redheads.
