UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME... PLEASE help?

I turned off my computer today, and then when I came home and turned it on, a
blue screen comes up and it says "A problem has been detected and Windows has
been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"

and then it talks about hardware or software properly being installed, etc.
Now when I turn it off and on again, I can choose between Safe modes, last
known good configuration, or start windows normally, and no matter what I
pick, the same blue screen comes up next. Also on the screen it says:

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x000000ED (0x82EEBC00, 0xC0000032, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

what can I do to fix this?
any help would be GREATLY appreciated, and if you could email me at
(e-mail address removed) that would be great. I will be happy to pay you a small
price in gratitude if you can help me. thanks.

Dustin;
Power off
Desktop:...Open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at both
ends.
Laptop/Portables:... simply remove and reinsert the hard drive.
If that fails:

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and download
their hard drive diagnostics.

Do you have a hard drive overlay such as Max Blast?
Windows XP sometimes has issues with overlay software.
You may need to perform a Clean Installation without their overlay software
which is not needed anyway.
