UNKNOWN ERROR WHEN IT SAY UNKNOWN ERROR HAS OCCURRED

In Windows Mail, unknown errors and undeletable messages are often
due to interference from an antivirus program. What if any antivirus
programs do you have, and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee
antivirus program on that computer, even one of the free trial versions
that often come already installed on new computers?

For a temporary fix, download and install this hotfix, with Windows
Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know if you have a 32-bit version of Vista
or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit versions first. The
Vista SP1 update includes this hotfix and more, but takes longer to
install.

Posting messages in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS is considered the same
as shouting, and is likely to make fewer people decide to give you
useful answers.

i found it simple, i just moved it to another folder on the left and deleted

If you want to be treated as shouting, and therefore receive fewer answers,
post
your error reports in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.

How did you manage to get 6000 emails in your Inbox?
The inbox is only meant for holding newly arrived emails.

Are you running any type of third party security software?
You might try uninstalling that software temporarily, to see if that
improves the deleting situation.

I followed the directions provided by Brink to rebuild my E-mail application.
That took care of my deleting problem. I then imported my E-mails from my
backup and then moved them to the Intray folder, sent folder, etc. All of my
mail messages have been recovered, except for the ones I received in the last
3 weeks. Yes, I have Norton's AV2008 and I have the E-mail checking feature
turned off. I accumulated a lot of messages in my Intray because I usually
only delete the spam messages that get past my spam blocking software.

I still don't know how this happened to begin with. One day my programs
were there and the next day they were all gone. The only thing I found that
changed was the auto-update of Windows.

I've read some posts in here about partitioning my C: drive into separate
areas for the O/S, program files, data files, etc. I already have a RAID1
disk pair running as my C: drive, but the deletion of my programs and E-mail
files took place on both drives, so the RAID didn't help me at all in this
situation. Would having separate partions prevented this from happening?

I still have one Windows Update that won't install for some reason.

Regards,

Steve

Norton antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
Symptoms often don't start until months later.
The only way you can prove or disprove that Norton is the culprit is to
uninstall it, followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Another option is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail, which is more
resistant to the adverse effects of aggressive antivirus products:

In any case you must disable any antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:

them all page by page but still they are all gone. Thanks alot.
