Uninstalling Pre-Installed Software

J

Joseph Fenn

Hermes,
One sure way to uninstall everything on your HD is drop down to dos and
c: fsk /mbr (issue this cmd at either a boot to c: only, or
just get out of windows by quitting and select restart computer at
dos prompt.
Make darned sure you dont want anything on the HD before you do this.
Suggest creating an "image" backup first just in case you want it all
back in there.

All the Dell's I've seen have a full set of CDs, If you
don't call Dell.

Came with 3 CDs, none had the file the uninstaller was looking for. Called
Dell twice; both times got transfer and then cut off after a while.

Building your own is better, you can select the exact
hardware and software you want, but it won't be much less
expensive because you don't get the volume discounts. Your
software costs (if you don't have retail versions you can
transfer already) will cost as much or more than a budget
Dell with the XP OS and Corel WP package.

The computer you build will be infinitely expandable if you
select the correct parts and Dell and HP (all OEMs) build
computer with limitations on expandability because they want
you to buy a new computer rather than upgrading the box you
bought.

My current computer cost me $1100.
You'd need to spend double that for the equivalent power with a Dell/Hp..
And my hardware is better quality!

But most users (not gamers) will be adequately served by a
$500 Dell. I paid (2 years ago)about $200 for mobo and
CPU, $60 for 512 MB RAM PC2100, $100 for Antec case w/ PS,
$50 for CD-RW, $25 for a modem and 25 for a Firewire card
and $290 for OEM and student teacher (W XP Pro $170 and
Office XP Pro $120). I've got Adobe Elements, Publisher and
FrontPage software and such that cost a few hundred total.
I may upgrade from the Celeron to a P4 on the D845GBVL mobo
and add a DVD-RW someday. I guess we've spent about the
same.

The big advantage of building yourself is you control the
entire system and can plan for future upgrades. But unless
you buy hardware and software by the case, you don't save
much money. IMHO

Why not? Top posting gets the answer up front, saves time
in the long run. BTW, who made you king?

Please don't post outside of microsoft.public. Other groups don't do
top-posting.

To me it seems like the whole thing is bass ackwards.
Seems to me the oldest post should be on the bottom with the responses on
top.
And you don't need ot say it, I know this isn't the case but reading would
make a hell of a lot more sense if it were done this way.

If you come in late and the OP and a couple replies are gone from the
server...

I just reply all, then the other groups are not sent to
because they aren't on msnews.microsoft.com

Tell the OP not to post in the odd rank groups.

Take a look around ****wit.. It's keeps the threads flowing nicely.
Do you start a book from the last line?

Next you'll say "Why not HTML posts"..
BTW, who made you king?

Yo mumma..

You were doing ok, having a rational discussion and then you had to screw it
up by using the term "****wit"
Now you just sound like an idiot.
You should have stopped while you were ahead.

Thank you, that page was very sensible.

The only hing there that I didn't agree with is the suggestion of only
quoting the "relevant" information.
If you reply to a post and instead of it going into the original thread it
comes up alone as a RE then all we see is your post along with what you
decided was "relevant" What may not be relevant to one person may turn out
to be very relevant to another.

Outside of that the question of top or bottom posting has been answered.
