Unable to write to blank DVD+RW

I write to my DVD+RW disks with Nero without formatting them first.
It's not necessary to format CDRW disks or DVD+RW disks in order to
write to them. The only time you would format them is if you wish to
drag and drop files\folders from Explorer or if required by a backup
program.

Hi again, how do you format a DVD+RW Disc? I've never come across this
process before!

Because you only need to format if your are using UDF {packet writing}
format software. I am not even sure that DVD supports UDF format. In any
case, unless you are using such you do not need to format.

WRT an other post of mine, I only mentioned drive compatibility for DVD+
since it was not mentioned in any of the post I read.

Install the InCD software that comes with Nero. Using My Computer window,
right click the drive that contains the blank DVD disc and select Format.
After the disc is formatted, it should show up with 4.7 Gb available space.
You can then drag folders from your hard drive to the DVD using Windows
Explorer.

| Have you formatted the DVD disc? All RW discs must be formatted before
you
| can write to them.

Absolutely incorrect. It's only necessary to format RWs if you want to use
packet-writing. Otherwise DVD-/+RWs may be used just as DVD-/+Rs are used,
with the exception being that they may be erased and used again.

Hi - just to let you know that I am also having the same problem and it's
nothing to do with the discs.

I, like you, used to be able to drag and drop files onto DVDs (using the
preinstalled sonic/roxio software and the Windows wizard) but Windows/my
Computer no longer sees the blank DVDs - I also get 0 free space and 0 total
size.

Even after formatting, the DVDs are no longer recognised, so I cannot write
to them using any third party software.

The reason you are being asked about third part software is that there is
some pre-installed, but it looks like Windows as it comes up with a Windows
wizard.

I have just tried to use send to for a file and I get an error message,
saying that "Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this file.
What do you want Windows to do?"

This is also making me fed up as it used to work very easily.....

Replace the likely defective DVD burner.
