XP Home - Unable to write A DVD+RW (1-4x) disk

Mr. Low

Hi,

My PC's Optical Drive is of the type 48x DVD/CD-RW Combo drive and has a DVD
DEcoder Software installed.

I do not have any problem in writing files to a CD-R 1x-48X.

However when I insert DVD-RW 4.7GB 1-4X to the drive, the system still says
that there is no DVD for writing. May I know why ? Is this type of DVD not
suitable for my PC's harware and software configuration ? Is there any
solution for this ?

Thanks

Low

XP by itself can not burn DVD media.
You will need a third party application
such as Roxio, Nero or search for freeware.

What maker/model of drive is it? What software are you using to attempt to
write to the drive? You should be aware that there are some drives which
will read and write CDs but which will only read DVDs.

It reads like you have a DVD reader and a CD RW. If it read
DVD-RW/CD-RW you'd have RW on both. If it read DVD-RW and didn't
mention CD's, it might be that it should read and write CD's too. Of
course, I could be wrong.. I was married once, and I was wrong all the time.

A "Combo" drive cannot burn DVDs, only CDs. It can read and play DVDs.
