Unable to download Windows Defender

I am unable to download Windows Defender Beta2. I have disabled both the
antivirus and the firewall. I am running Windows XP SP2 Media Center Edition
and I have 100% of the updates available from Windows Update at the time of
this post. I have an AMD 64 but since my OS is 32-bit, I'm trying to
download the 32-bit version. I have no third party antivirus or antispyware
programs on my computer at all. When I click to download, it gets to 3% then
stops. I left it alone for about 30 minutes and there is no progress. No
connection problems. Tried multiple times with same result. Is there
anything else I can try?

Downloaded and ran cleaner. To be safe, I went ahead and restarted computer
before downloading. And I turned off antivirus and firewall before
downloading. Same result. Stops at 3%.

That's the funny thing. I can download anything else from Microsoft. Except
Defender. I can't download either version. I have a cable connection. I
have no trouble downloading from other sites either. Just this one program.

Hi,

can you try downloading to your desktop?

Tried that. Tried saving to a folder. I even tried waiting a couple minutes
after the save window opens before I clicked "save: just to be sure I'm not
out-thinking my computer. But with 2.5GB RAM, I doubt that's possible. I
just think the download is messed up on Microsoft's end. Because I have no
problems downloading anything else. Whether from Microsoft or otherwise.
And I'm no novice when it comes to computers. I've tried everything I can
think of.

Thanks.

I'm looking. Most of them link back to microsoft though. I'll see if I can
find it as a stand alone. Do you know if Micrsoft is going to offer this
program on CD in the future?

I hope you won't find it as a standalone--but try www.filehippo.com

I don't expect it to be offered on a CD, unless, perhaps, OneCare is offered
on a CD--not sure that's been decided. If that happens, they might include
Windows Defender on the CD perhaps.
