Top of Start Button takes up half of the screen

After shutdown over the weekend the start button is now massive - only the
top green part shows, but it takes up the bottom half of the screen. Display
properties will not open, even from the run, desk.cpl - right-click,
properties - control panel, display.

The button acts normally, but can't see rest of taskbar or anything under
this new massive start button.

Anyone seen this before?

Have restored back to 2 different days last week, no change...

Help!

A. Uninstall/reinstall your video drivers. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html - Belarc Advisor
http://www.aumha.org/free.htm - Aida32 (hosted on Jim Eshelman's site)

B. If the driver update doesn't work, your video card may have died.
Uninstall it and swap it out for a known-working card. If you can't do
the testing yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer,
take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local
equivalent of BigStoreUSA).

Thanks! I had a feeling it was the card and was going to try a spare video
card later this morning. I did uninstall/reinstall the video drivers
yesterday with no change..

We'll see what happens - thanks again for your thoughts.

No luck. Had to do a XP installation Repair to fix the problem.

Thanks for your help though. I thought it was the video too...oh well..
