|You tried flooding any binary groups recently?

Not in the last 3 weeks or so no. But I have before that, from work in
alt.binaries.misc, alt.binaries.pictures.wallpaper etc. Another one I
subscribe to is alt.binaries.e-book they are a little bit different as
they have a separate newsgroup for floods alt.binaries.e-book.flood.
However there is still lots of flooding that happens in alt.binaries.e-
book.

|I can't keep up with the postings,
| but one thing that I'd like would be
|a note as install or non-install. It saves a lot of time for people like
|me, we have to usually start to download before we can make a guess that
|it is a setup file. I've gotten to the stage that it's only if I
|**really** need a utility, then I will install. Anything else, I don't
|bother to try it if I have to install it first.

It's a real shame about some of the programs that "require" an install.
A fair amount of the install programs include the Visual Basic Runtime
files. The runtime files make the setup files larger.

Someone said that they install a program then copy the folder from
Program Files and stick it on another computer. If it works from that
folder they keep new "no install" version.

Why?

One *can* have too much of a Good Thing. . .

Do beer lovers want to be drowned in a vat of beer?

Susan

Uh, well, if the vat is there, do they have to drink it all?

This is the only newsgroup I subscribe to where posting on topic
information is complained about.

Post away, Trampie. I certainly have gotten tons of great stuff from
you.

Beer and freeware are completely different things.

Indeed, completely.

Think of the freeware offered here as the actual number of beers
available in a bar. One goes TO a bar FOR -some- beer, and ignores the
brands they don't want.

Better analogy methinks.

I agree. What I started doing (and I'm going to post this else where so
that other flooders see this) is to put "mini" descriptions in the subject
like, such as if its another archive program, a notepad replacement, a game,
a directory utility, a screen saver, a kids program, etc. Would that help ?

I also would rather see Quality Freeware posted, then just anything
that is labeled freeware. Posting 50 programs where maybe 5-10 are
interesting, and the rest aren't is just a waste of time. In my
Newsletter I try to update it as often as I can. I post two Freeware
programs a day, that I hope others may find interesting. I go to the
homepages of the programs, and try to make sure they aren't adware,
spyware, or shareware. Which surprisngly some of the freeware sites
mark as freeware, but they aren't. It's nice that some are posting as
much freeware as they can find. Although it looks more like a contest
of who can post the most. I like what Protean Thread is doing, by at
least typing in a mini description in the subject. At least you have
an idea of what the program is.

Me thinks Susan may be afraid that these floods will someday render
pricelessware.org useless ;-)

Quality is dependent on the users tastes.

That's the rub though. What's an interesting, useful, quality program to
you might not be for others. This is where I differ from most. I don't
try and say if something is good or not. I just post the information
about the program, I leave it up to the individual to decide if it's
something they like.

I do the same. I go to the site and make sure the links work. That the
program says it's freeware.

Yes and this sucks big time. I find it a lot when surfing.

Well no contest on my part. I post what I find when I find it. Sometime
others post a lot the same day I do.

Thank you. I am always amazed at the attitude of "You're posting way to
much freeware."

What is even more amazing are the number of idiots here who are too
lazy, or too stupid, to killfile posters that they don't want to read.

At least these posts are freeware. A pleasant change from the temper
tantrums here recently.

ITYM some of these posts are freeware. Surely you haven't checked them
all to see what's not freeware?

Yes, it is much much more pleasant to have you calling people here
lazy, stupid idiots.

Libor Striz

Yes, and they are not even so nice as to write an [ANNOUNCE] in the
subject as help for filtering. Instead, one has to filter the poster,
and still get all the replies. :(

Can you avoid the replies too? If so, how?
Some newsreaders ( like Gravity ) could use filter like that:

If "from is XYZ" AND NOT "Subject contains Re:"
than "ignore the thread".

Different resources, strokes for folks.

Susan should be more worried about Corliss. He is an obvious
woman-hater.
