PLEASE HELP!
This is not as serious, but it annoys not knowing something which bugs you.
Every file I add, whether under a sub-directory or the main directory 'My
Pictures' of My Documents those files appear as one of my choices of my
background.
When you go to Display Properties (right click on desktop and click
properties, then choose the Desktop Tab) you get a lis of Pre-Installed
wallpapers. My list has probably 100's of Files, the pre-installed ones and
the one that are in 'My Pictures' folder.
Shall apprciate if someone can help me how to fix this. Somehow there should
be an option somewhere that Windows should not do that.

Thanks.

Unfortunately this is the Windows default.
All pictures in the My Pictures folder are listed there as available.
Only way to get out of it is to save pictures in folders separate from My
Pictures.

By design, all images in your My Pictures folder
will be available in the Desktop Background list.
If you wish to remove your images from this list
all you have to do is move the images to a different
folder outside of the My Pictures folder. A New
Folder in My Documents...for example.

To move the contents of your My Pictures folder...
open the folder and go to...Edit / Select All...
In your "Picture Tasks" pane...choose "Move the
selected items"...

On your "Move Items" screen...choose or create
a new folder and left click the "Move " button.

I have noticed that if I exceed 100 images in My
Pictures the files no longer show in the Background
list. There may be a way to edit this number but I
don't know how.

If you wish to delete all the images in your My
Pictures folder...open the folder and go to...

Edit / Select All...
File / Delete...

When the dialog box says...

Are you sure you want to send these XX items to
the recycle bin?

Click "Yes".

XP Home. Had the same irritating annoyance. Got rid of the problem a couple
years ago by experimenting. I have plenty pictures in and out of My
Pictures all the time. Not one lists itself any more in the Desktop generic
list. Don't remember the exact steps I took. Empty My Pictures folder
(delete the pics, transfer to My Documents or to CD) as a very first step.
After that you have to change the Theme and Desktop settings in Display
Properties until you can again load pictures in My Pictures without them
being listed in Desktop. Experiment! It will happen! It won't take long!
Once you're clear never again repeat never again click the Browse button in
the Desktop tab to import a picture from My Pictures to the list. It will
open the link between the two again! Right click the picture (>Set as
Desktop Background) when you want it as desktop.
