TCP/IP Hoses my machine after attempting reset

Hi. I have a Win2k SP4 machine with built in ether and
phone on loan from one of my clients. After 'cleaning'
the machine of some infections my internet connectivity
started behaving wierdly. Local drive share access became
inconsistant (corrupting files, connecting then not being
connected) and all internet connectivity through the LAN
out through my shared connection or even directly to the
router through Wireless went away.

Using Dialup the machine communicates fine with the
outside world.

I found existing issues involving "helper" apps breaking
the TCP/IP stack when removed unsafely and fixes I found
on the net worked fine for other machines.

With this machine after I ran the rebuild fix:
With TCP/IP installed: Machine runs *super* slow and never
really finishes booting after login. We're talking 8088
speeds here (click and wait 5 minutes for response)
With TCP/IP Protocol removed: Machine runs fine but of
course no net.

Long story short: Any one have any experience with this?
Is there any way to safely nuke and reinstall from scratch
the TCP/IP infrastructure (nuke any thing that may be
residual from the uninstall/reinstall of TCP/IP that I've
done numerous times now)? Any ideas at all?

Thanks!
-Nate
