system mechanic pro antivirus program?

A

aaronep

I am using Windows XP Media Center OS with service pack 2. I have
been using AVAST anti-virus software.

I just purchased the 2009 edition of System Mechanic Pro suite which
include an anti-virus program.

My question is: Is the System Mechanic Anti-virus software as
reliable as AVAST or other anti-virus programs.?

best, Aaron

System Mechanic is pure snake-oil. Remove it.

Unfortunately you spent your money on a product that I, and many
others here, would consider junk. Using it on your computer is
dangerous.

No!

My 2 cents worth:

Dump all 3rd party anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall software.
Download Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Firewall. Keep them
and Windows up-to-date and run Malwarebytes and/or SUPERAnti-Spyware once a
month. Works for me with no effect on performance. YMMV.

System Mechanic and Avast are two different and separate program types.
Avast is a very good antivirus program and system mechanic is more for
increasing performance on your PC which is it's purpose. Now you say it uses
an antivirus component as well. Avast is better. It is best to only use 1
antivirus program and here is why:

If you use two they can conflict also there is the matter of firewalls and a
potential conflict there. Windows XP comes with a firewall I don't know if
you have turned on or off and then Avast comes with one and I would imagine
that System mechanic the antivirus component has one as well. So firewalls
are supposed to block unwanted traffic from coming into ports. Now if you
have more than one firewall enabled what can happen is legitimate traffic
gets blocked ;like say you want t download something like from a server like
an I-tunes song. Now you have multiple firewalls so maybe it wont download.
It gets blocked. Make sense?

So I would disable the antivirus feature of sytem mechanic and use Avast
for antivirus exclusively. Now one additional thing thesee types of programs
usually tell you the resgistry needs cleaning, which it does however these
progragams can harm it they will claim they can increase your startup speed
by optimizing or cleaning the registry. This is 100% false. The startup
speed is determined by what processess and startup programs run when you
start. To to view them hit ctrl+alt+delete and bring up the task manager
then click the startup taband that shows you all the programs that startup
and how they start up. Use extreme caution if you change this around. I hope
this answers your question. Let me know

Good luck,

Kaja

What kind of mumbo jumbo statement is that? How do you disable the
anti-virus portion of System Mechanic if it is not an anti-virus program?

If you had spent 20 seconds with Google, you would have discovered that
the Pro version also has an antivirus module.

Who are you telling that to?
