svchost.exe crashes .. or more to the point an instance of svchost crashes
when the an msblast infected machine finds your venerable machine and
attempts to infect it .. the code of this particular worm has some
kindergarten level code in it and hasn't "yet" been encoded to probe for the
version on windows it's attempting to infect so it was coded to guess ..
upon guessing wrongly in caused the instance of svchost involved in the
services that you loose to fall over leaving your pc rather lam... it uses a
floor in dcom to access rpc services to infect a vulnerable machine .. to
quickly stop this so u have complete use of your machine while you are
downloading the latest patches go to Steve gibsons site and download his

is no longer a back door to your computer as it will be disabled.. dcom is
redundant as there has not been a single program written to make use of it
apart from malicious ones such as this msblast and it's variants .. if some1
spends some time to refine this virus it could be the worst ever annoyance
to ever affect internet users using the affected OS's ever !!!!!...so
hopefully the less informed will get their machines up to date
