svchost.exe infected??

Hello...first off thank you very much in advance, to everyone who replies
and/or tries to help out :)

Norton has been popping up its detected a virus... Backdoor.EggDrop

The file infected is svchost.exe, i know this is a system critical file,
which is why Norton doesnt have "access to the file" i'm assuming, so Norton
is useless. I've tried everything I can think of. My friend tells me to
delete svchost.exe, but i'm not sure that would be great for a critical file
;)

If anyone can help me out or anything here please let me know, this is kind
of my last restort :(

Well then, since that is the only way to remove the trojan, if it doesn't
work for you then you're looking at a complete reinstall. Take this as an
opportunity to learn how to protect your computer. I actually use Norton
Antivirus myself and have been since 1997. I have never had a virus on any
of my computers.

Hi,

I`m not sure, but I once remember there was some AV out
there that you could run at boot, before windows even
starts, so you could remove any virus`s that attached to
active programs.

Norton did that to me I tried a different AV and love
it,last time the kids got me 4 at once trojans,Norton
wouln't remove them,They had special umf biult in for
Norton,I tried Computer Associates EZ-AV,also makers of
ZoneAlarm.It removed it and has removed several more from
online games that has came along,There scool friends were
not so lucky,there Norton wouldn't remove them but my CA
poped up has caught and has been removed will not open
file and is turminating the program that it came in on.I
love CA's EZ-AV and is worth a shot before a clean
reinstall,it's free for a year,also comes with a free
year of firewall if you select the lite version,if you
can't navigate to it from the MS update page,hard for me
to find used to be easier B4 SP2 here's the link for you

it's the one free for a year,all you need is an E-Mail
address to send the code to and from there it has a link
to the download site.Have went to friends houses and have
downloaded it for them and it gets rid of trojans that
Norton won't.You'll have to remove Norton first or they
conflict when they run,CA's got the removal tool you need
on the link they send you.The longest I waited for them
to send it to me is 5 minutes.Get it check for
autoupdates and run it,You'll be happy if it works,and if
it don't You can get your Norton back when you do your
reinstall, that Rocky's talking about.

You may have to go into the option,option wizard and
change the settings if it don't remove on the first scan
from options wizard select delete instead of clean if it
wont remove it.Also select the delete and replace boot
sector thats infected.I also have it,most fortune 500 use
it too.Computer Associates teaming up with Microsoft was
a very good thing for computer users.I'm sure it'll
remove them the first run thru.Just a thought tho have
you tried internet options,,,delete files check box for
all offline content,,,delete cookies,,,delete history---
then all programs---accessories---system tools---disc
cleanup,,run it thru and remove everything EXCEPT for
compress old files,,,then run your Norton again.If that
dont work get the computer ass. AV you will like it.

farm animals(I aint into that so I tried to X it out)
Norton poped up your infected,why didn't it catch it
before.The removale tool worked for me but I feel that
shoulda been caught before it hit me Norton was too slow
in catching it.When 2003 runs out next month I think I'm
going to try that free one too I paid a lot of money to
get a virus that i have 2 remove manually.And free is
good.

Just a thought E ,Have you tried AdAware?get it free from
www.download.com it can remove some trojans,it worked
for me several times removing trojans.Get it > check for
updates > Run a smart scan > remove the problems > if its
a boot trojan,it will show uo cannot remove at this time
can run and remove when windows restarts select yes and
restart,AdAware runs before anything and it will remove
them for you.Try that first.Also look into getting spybot
search and destroy,and hijackthis while your there.They
may come in handy when you go to remove the next time.I
recomend running Ad-aware 2 times a week,I have 3
computers and run it every day on all 3.I have 2 teens
that just love the online games.I've had dialers,this is
a good one because I have cable,but if I didn't I would
have a big phone bill.Ad Aware it's FREE get it and try
that.

virus are there.
