After approximately 5-10 minutes of being connected to
the internet, I receive an error: "Svchost.exe has
generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will
need to restart the program. An error log is being
created." When this occurs, ability to browse & print is
lost, icons in My Computer have shifted and are
unaccessible. I've tried disabling scanner devices and
virus scan programs. I have upgraded from ie5 to ie6, ran
Chkdisk /r for win2k. All unsuccessful in resolving the
issue. Attempts to download any service packs have also
been unsuccessful as the error message appears before the
download can complete.
