svchost.exe

Andy

I have just upgraded to Windows 2000 Pro. Now when I go
online, I get the following error after a few minutes:

"svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error
log is being created."

I have looked on the Microsft website and tried to follow
the suggested advice, which involves adjusting the
Registry Editor, but it has not helped.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks.

Your computer systems maybe have a virus or Trojan program.
Use Nortorn and Zone Alarm check it.

first of all .. you don't neccesarily have a virus or worm yet ..as many ppl
who post about this problem claim...

but you
are however vulnerable to the MSblast worm ..

heres how it works

any infected machine with the
blast worm (commonly xp machines) will attempt to infect another machine it
finds remotely by
probing a certain port .. the vulnerability which allows this worm to
attempt to infect another machine is a windows service called DCOM .. the
writer of this worm didnt do the whole job so the worm guesses which
vulnerable OS it is attempting to infect .. guessing wrongly it causes a
certain episode of svchost.exe to fall over leaving certain key windows
functions unavailable.. this worm is scary as you don't have to do anything
except be unprotected from it and be on the internet to be infected .. go to
gibson resourch www.grc.com and download Steves decombobulaor, that will
stop the problem .. then do a windows update . while your at steves site use
some of his download and use some of his other tools and read the goss on
windows vulnerability and other stuff andf you will be somewhat more aware
of what may be a problem in the future
good luck
