STOP ERROR 0X0000001E SymSnap.sys blue screen

I am getting a STOP ERROR on a Dell Dimension 4100 desktop running Win 2000
Professional. The problem started immediately after installing Symantec Ghost
10.0. I contacted Symantec and they say nothing they can do. They don't know
what the problem is...reinstall the OS. It's really a "Windows problem"
Symantec says. Note that before installing Ghost, everything was fine. Seems
like a Symantec issue to me, but after hours on hold and difficult
communications with their support people, I am done with Symantec. Because I
was going to use Ghost to back up system, I don't have a back up. I cannot
just reinstall the OS. Here's the error message. Any help is much
appreciated...

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
STOP 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xBFF5AA27, 0x00000000, 0x00000004)
Address BFF5AA27 base at BFF53000, DateStamp 45184447 - SymSnap.sys

I have done the following without success:
Tried to boot in Safe Mode
Ran Fixboot from the repair console

Note that Symantec says there is no way uninstall Ghost 10.0 unless I can
get the system to boot.

Use Acronis products instead of Ghost. I have had reasonably good
experiences with their helpdesk.

To resolve your current problem: Boot the machine with your Win2000
CD, get into the Recovery Console, locate SymSnap.sys and rename it
to SymSnap.bad. It's probably in c:\WinNT\system32 and/or in
c:\WinNT\System32\dllcache.

If you're not comfortable working in the Recovery Console, boot the
machine with your Bart PE boot CD if you have one, or connect your
hard disk as a slave disk to some other Win2000/XP PC.
