STOP (BSOD) Driver_irql_Not_Less_or_equal afd.sys

I'm getting the following STOP message when I boot my
machine: Driver_irql_Not_Less_or_equal stop message after
installing XP Hotfix KB824146 & Bosom NetSim and upgraded
it to the latest version of netsim. I did not boot my
machine bfter installing the hotfix and the NetSim app.
When I finally did boot my machine it came up with the
following BSOD: Driver_irql_Not_Less_or_equal, 0x000000D1
(0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xB6a87e1e) and it
listed file afd.sys address b0a87e1e @ base b6a76000 date
stamp d36de2d9.

The syetem will boot up normally until after it loads
Trillian and other apps that access the network. This
happends everytime it boots into normal mode. I booted
into safemode with networking and it boots ok and I am
able to access the internet. One time that I booted into
safemode I deleted the hotfix (I think, it is no longer
listed in ad/remomve programs) by
running :\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB824146$\spuninst. I booted
my system and the same thing happened. I next booted into
safemode and copied the afd.sys file from the
servicepackfiles\i386 directory to the windows\system32
\drivers directory. I renamed the old file. Both files was
listed as the same size but with different create dates.
The file version is XPSP1-020828-1920, the same for both
files. I rebooted and the same thing happends.

I next booted back into safemode & renamed the file
afd.sys and booted. The system now goes into windows
without crashing. At this point I was not able to a ping
my router or connect to the internet but I was able to
ping the loopback address, 127.0.0.1. I removed the Bosom
NetSim app though add/remove programs and rebooted with
the adf.sys file back to it's normal name. I'm still
getting the STOP message.

I'm going to try reinstalling the hot fix and see whats
happends and then I'm going to go to sleep.

What happened after reinstalling KB824146?
What about uninstalling the Bosom NetSim?
Otherwise try troubleshooting with MSCONFIG and or
Device Manager.

Removing Bosom NetSim made no difference and I'm so far
unable to reinstall the hotfix. When I tried windowsupdate
it fail for reasons unknown and when I tried to download
the fix from the KB artcle it failed. I'm trying to
download it on another machine and copy it to this one.

Device manager doesn't report any problems and I'm not
sure what help MSCONFIG will be. I know is I delete the
afd.sys file the system boots without any problems but
none of the networking apps work anymore.

Thanks for the suggestions.
