'START' button has gone fuzzy

I know this sounds like a trivial problem, but I'm concerned that it might
be indicative of something more serious beginning to happen.

Lately, I've noticed that the 'start' button at the bottom left corner of
the monitor has gone somewhat fuzzy. It just doesn't look as clean and
crisp as it once did. Have any of you run into this problem? I'm sure it
isn't my eyes, although they aren't as sharp as they used to be either.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You don't have an LCD screen by any chance, do you?
If so, if the resolution is not set to match the actual physical resolution of
the screen, it will be resizing the image to fit, and this can make it look
"fuzzy".
Sometimes, if you have a laptop, for example, if you connect an external
monitor, it will adjust the resolution of the screen to match the external
monitor, and then the internal display will look bad. Check your display
properties (resolution, refresh rate, color depth).

If you have an CRT monitor, it may be going out of focus.
You could try moving your taskbar to another edge of the screen and see if it
looks different there.
You could download something like the "crtat" program available at
http://www.computerstuff.net/software/utilities.htm that has some test
patterns, etc. that you can do on your monitor. This is a 10 year old program
- there are probably newer better ones available elsewhere.

Some monitors have quite a few adjustments that can be made from the front
panel that may clear things up (moire, convergence, linearity, top/bottom
hook, etc)
If it is the monitor focus, there is usually an adjustment inside the monitor
(on/near the HV coil) that may be able to correct the problem - this may take
a professional service person, though - you shouldn't mess with the HV unless
you know what you are doing.

Hi Danno,

Right-click on your desktop, choose properties, go to the appearance
tab, choose effects and tick 'Use the following method to soften edges
in the screen fonts, on the dropdown menu choose 'Clear type.' Accept
your way out.

Good luck
