Having Serious Video Problems

Hi All,

I've been trying various help solutions from this newsgroup, but I've come
to the conclusion that my problem need a little more in depth solution.

Here's the problem:

First of all, my PC is two years old and is fairly powerful . Dell
Dimension 8200 with 1.9 gig processor and 512 of ram. It is my first
computer...and at first it just amazed me with what it could do. I have
been very careful to make sure it has no spyware and no viruses. It has had
lots of spyware which have been found and removed, but has never had a
virus. I keep the hard drive fairly clean and keep the temporary internet
files, etc. fairly minimal.

But lately, it displays video in a jerky fashion. I've described the
problems here on this newsgroup a few times and have tried the solutions.
But the solutions just aren't working.

I have some funny video clips that used to play in Media Player just
beautifully...almost like watching it on TV. I have Flight Sym that used to
be just about as good as watching it on TV. But now, the images are jerky
(in the case of flight sym) and low resolution when watching some funny
video clips. They are big files that at one time could be viewed as clear
as a television picture. But now they appear fuzzy.

I just don't know what to do about it. I know the computer has the
capacity, but something is wrong and I'm nearly at my wit's end.

I would sure appreciate your advice.

Best Regards,
Danno

Do you have lot's of room left on your HD

If not that could cause you a ton of grief.

Hi Greg, Funny you should ask that! I'm not very computer smart. each and
every time I have gotten into trouble...I never had a back-up. I didn't
(don't) knew how to use a back-up utility without getting into terrific
trouble.

Anyway, last week I successfully made a back-up of my entire hard drive. I
did not want to make it. I was only trying to make a back-up of my
registry. In any event...I created a backup of my entire hard drive (the
backup was 17 gig) and it ended up on my desktop. So with a 40 gig hard
drive, I now have 17 gig in the hard drive and a 17 gig back-up of the same
damned thing on my desktop.

I'm in the process of deleting (wiping with Norton) that 17 gig back-up. I'm
going to see what happens after the wipe...thanks for the suggestion. Stay
in touch with this thread...please.

Thanks,
Danno

It sounds like your refresh rate has defaulted to 60 . Right click on
desktop > got to settings > go to advanced > click monitor tab. It should be
75 0r 85 . Jym

Thanks Jym. Nope! The refresh rate was at 72 and I've increased it to 75
which is the max available.
