Not Sure What To Do About Video

Hello,

I'm not sure what to do about a problem I 'think' is developing. I think it
might be a video driver problem. Lately my computer seems to be running
slower, but I have a suspicion it's related to the video in some way.
Here's the situation as best as I can describe it:

I have a Dell Dimension with a P-4 running at 1.9 gig, and with 512 of ram.
It has been remarkably fast in the past, but just seems to be going slower
now. I regularly run AdAware and SpyBot and seem to be clear of spies. I
also have a utility with Norton that 'finds and fixes' windows issues. So
I'm pretty sure the computer is maintained in fairly clean condition. I
only defrag when advised. I use the computer mainly for surfing and for
business. But when it comes to gaming, the speed issues start to appear.

About a week ago, I posted here about my 'start' button getting kind of
fuzzy...not having high enough resolution to be as clear as I remembered it
being in the past. So I went to the Nvidia site and found what I think was
an updated version of the driver for my video card (Nvidia GeForce 2MX). I
say I 'think', because I don't know much about drivers, and am reluctant to
fool around with them. I don't know how to tell if there is a better driver
for anything on my computer. I don't even know if this is a good video card
or not. I used to have an attitude of always wanting to improve my computer
by screwing around with it and just got myself into trouble. So for the
last year, all I've done is to keep it clean of spies and basically leave it
alone. And I haven't gotten into any major trouble since then. Anyway,
with the new driver, the problem with the 'start' button cleared up.

Now, I sometimes see a delay on the monitor. For example, occasionally when
I want to drag a window or even something like a playing card, in free cell,
that window or card won't follow the mouse, but stays where it is for a
fraction of a second, then 'jumps' to where the mouse is. It's kind of
jerky. I occasionally fly with Microsoft Flight Sym. 2000, and now, the
view can be quite jerky, not smooth as it used to be. The computer has
shown in the past to be plenty fast enough to handle the flight sym program.
But its just not operating as fast any more.

It might seem that this is a trivial problem, but in my mind, this is an
indication that something is starting to corrupt.

I don't really know where to start. I don't know how to ensure I have the
best drivers. I don't even know for certain that it is a driver problem
And I don't even know for sure that the problem is truly a 'video' issue.

I could sure use some guidance here!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Danno,

If these symtoms started to appear when you updated the video drivers,
go back to the ones you had before, or doing a System Restore to a
date before you installed them.

Good luck
