SpyBot freezes up during updates

J

Jan Il

Hi all!

I have been trying to update my SpyBot from the access on my desktop, but,
it just froze up. I finally had to do a Ctrl-Alt-Del to end the task. I
had to download the latest update from the website and then manually install
it.

I thought at first that it was because the site might be very busy and not
able to respond, but, over the last few days, I have tried it at various
times, and it still does freezes up during the download process, and I wind
up having to manually download

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there a solution?

Best regards,
Jan :)

I've encountered this as well. Did you try some other update sites?
There are some update sites preconfigured in the Spybot S&D menus.

Yeah. Use one of the other mirror sites (I used the one in the US).
Something's wrong with the default sites server.

No...actually, but, I did not know that this was a possible selection in
SpyBot. Is there some way to configure the update from the desktop Control
Center to go to other sites to download updates? If so, I don't know how to
set this up. I have just had to go to the website from which I origianlly
downloaded the program to manually download the updates. I know that there
are other sites where the SpyBot files can be downloaded, but, I am assuming
that the update information from these sites is all the same. Yes...No?

Thank you for your time to reply, I really appreciate it very much.

I do not wish to appear so very dense, but, when you say that I should try
another site, do you mean that I should download the program from another
site? Or, that I should try downloading the updates?

It is not that I can't download the updates from the website, that works
just fine. The problem is, that I can't update the files from the SpyBot
control center on my desktop, when I click the Search for Updates, and then,
when it lists the new updates in the list window, it looks as if it is
trying to download, and, on the bottom tool bar, it says, Downloading
updates (or such). The problem is....itjust hangs there, without ever
finishing the download, it just freezes my system, and I have to do a C-A-D,
the do an End Task to get it to rekease the system. Sometimes it will even
go to the Blue screen and I have to power off and back on.

See....it won't update from the PC, I have to go to the website to update.
BTW...this a new situation. Before, all I had to do was click the Search
for updates button, the new updates would be listed in the window, and I
could just tell it to update the new files and Voila! But, no now. I have
to do a manual download. Is there perhaps a deterioration of the free
program after a while? I mean, I can understand that perhaps the freebee
might only be good for a specific time frame, and then begin to dry up the
vine, so to speak.

Thank you very much for you time and information, I really appreciate it.

Best regards,
Jan :)

There is a "Mirrors" button just to the right of the "Download"
button. Select one of the other mirrors _before_ you click the
download button.

His main server is way too busy. Hence, the mirrored sites.

Had the same problem until I started getting my updates from the
FXClips USA site. Haven't had a problem since. Get away from the
default UniDo Europe download site and try one of the others and I
think your problem will go away.

Yes...I have seen this...but, was just not sure if the initial install of
the program might have been a good one, and perhaps he was suggesting that I
do a new install. I'm still getting my feet wet with some of the aspects of
the way things work. Please excuse my tracking a bit of mud in the foyer
rug now and again...I am trying to wipe my feet well before stepping into
the parlor....;-))))

Ah...I see.....ye olde busy signal... astoya.....electronically..??
Well...guess I should just plan to make manual updates from the web.
Accesing the updates from the web is not a problem....and much faster in the
long run..:)

Thank you so very much for your time and assistance. I really do appreciate
it.

Thank you very much for your help..I will try this. The original site was
one provided for me in another ng some while back when I first downloaded
the program. I Bookmarked it and just go back there for updates, not
realizing there might be a problem with that site.

That's because you aren't leaning your head 90 degrees in the proper
direction before consulting the turn signal arm.

Actually I saw a car eons ago when I was in vietnam that had the turn
signal arm pointing straight up.... No problem there figuring which
way to move it. However, I think a lot of people that live in my area
would still have problems figuring that one out also.

Saw a car with a handicap tag on it turn left from the right lane of a
4 lane undivided highway with their turn signal blinking right last
week. Handicap was an understatement for that clown.

Actually it doesn't or doesn't on mine. I have to select the US

Why..this surely would be much easier. However, I have checked the
references and all on the desktop Control Center, and I can not find
anything that indicates a place to do this. In the Help it says to click on
Settings and Directories, but, I can not find this in the the SpyBot desktop
center that I have. I have the free version, so, perhaps this is not an
option with the free version, is it? The Help said to open it in the
Advanced mode...but, I can't find that in the version I have on my desktop.

I truly am sorry, I am trying, and I have tried to find it, but, I just
can't find anything that ralates at all to a place where I can change the
location for downloading updates in the program. The only things I have on
the Tool bar are File, Language and Help, and there is nothing in any of
these that indicates where I can do this.

I very sorry, Beauregard, I don't mean to be so dense...but, I just can't
find it.

Well....I have been on a freeway now and again in LA, with an 18-wheeler's
grille inplanted in my rear windshield, and I am certain that the driver
thought that 'straight up' was the only direction I had a prayer of
surviving at that second, as he intended to take over the exact spot I was
in at that second. I decided that, oh Hell yeah..up was a really great
choice at that second. Problem was, there was already another care there
that was trying to get away from the 18-wheeler camping in their back seat.
So, I closed, my eyes, flipped my left turn indicator on, and just darted to
the right. Sure enough, there was a hole, and I managed to slip into
it...(and, no..if you're not from LA...the strategy of that move will be
lost on you).
Saw a car with a handicap tag on it turn left from the right lane of a

Ohhh... I need a handicap tag to do that?? Well...ahmm...no one told me
that...

This is version 1.2.

When you open the program, click the Search for Updates button.
Next screen has three horizontal buttons.
Search for Updates / Download Updates / [Mirror Sites]
followed by Show Log and Help
On third button, click the *DownArrow* and select the USA mirror.
Click Download Updates button.

When you open Spybot S&D and click on search for updates tab, you'll see a
little arrow across the menu bar at the top.
Next to it will be a site, like UniDo(Europe). Click on the arrow and it
will bring up a drop down box that allows you to change the mirror site.
Try the one for FXClips (USA). It worked for me.
