Hello,

How can I delete system32 driver file called sptd.sys?

This file has caused my computer not to load windows. It loads the 1st
windows screen then goes to black. It won't even load in safe mode, when the
drivers are loading it asks if I would like to skip sptd.sys, to do so press
esc. but nothing happens.

Is there a way to delete this file with out formatting?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Yes, I have tried that...but I can't get past the Admin password step.
I have tried every password I can think of and even left it blank.
I have also tried using two of the password recovery ISO discs.

Thanks

That could be caused by file system corruption on the volume or it could
be caused by an OEM password issue. You might want to try the floppy
diskette set to eliminate this OEM password possibility:

Error message when you log on to Recovery Console in Windows XP: "The
password is not valid"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308402

If disk or file system corruption is suspected you can run chkdsk from
the Recovery Console without login on to the Windows installation.
Please note that there is always a risk of data loss when chkdsk is run.

Another way around the problem would be to mount the disk in another
Windows XP installation or to use a PE disk to boot the machine and
remotely change the registry settings for the service in question.

If this is a case where you have truly forgotten a proper password for
the Administrator account you can try using P. Nordahl's Offline
Registry Editor to reset the password:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ Please be warned that if you
have encrypted files using password reset utilities will invalidate your
EFS certificate and you will not be able to decrypt your files, you will
in effect lose your encrypted files on the disk.
