Unable to start up in Safe Mode.

Can anyone hellp? I am sure this has been covered before but I am
unable to find the information I need. When I try to go into safe
mode, I get to the screen where it asks which mode I would like to
start. My system goes through the process than it comes to a line
durring the start up that has: "Press ESC to cancel loading of
SPTD.sys." Then it goes through the process of start again and goes
directly to windows. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is there an application by the name of Alcohol 120 installed?

You will also want to make sure the system is clean of virus and spyware
infections.

Other than that my research shows that the best solution is a repair install.

Another thought, are there any USB devices attached to the system?
If so try disconnecting them and opening into Safe Mode.
