Spooler Subsystem encountered ...

I am running an HP laser 2600n on XP. For the first 2/3 days it ran perfectly
but now comes up with this error on XP - Spooler Subsystem app encountered a
problem. I have edited the directory to rid of any previous driver info etc
just in case of previous printer conflicts, to no result - tried system
restores to point when first installed and no result!... PLEASE HELP!
It could be a hardware problem.... The printer starts up when I boot the pc.
Green light comes on and then while booting the printer then flashes a red
light and prints off a blank page..... What is that all about? Anyone else
had this problem?....

PS - It prints great when it works!...

Cari,

Thanks but I tried this word for word, with no joy!... I am really wondering
if this now is a hardware issue?

the hardware won't make the software fail in this manner. This is typically
a driver issue. It could also be caused by a job which reprints each time
the spooler restarts.

Take a look in \windows\system32\spool\printers. If you see any nnnnnn.spl
or nnnnn.shd files copy them to another location before restarting the
spooler.

If that does not solve the issue, what are the print monitors listed in the
registry?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors

glad you got this resolved. Was there a printjob hanging around that killed
the spooler? Normally a faulty USB cable does not take out the spooler.
