Hi Cjaoat,

Sounds more like a virus or spyware problem. SP2 does NOT disable program's
abilities to access the 'net. Update your AV software, then reboot into Safe
mode and run a full system scan. If you are unable to connect to the server
to update, that is your first clue that a virus is the most likely culprit.
If that is the case, use one of these:

Free virus removal tools:

http://www.emsisoft.com/en/
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/8/lng/us/tpl/v5/nid/3001#3001

Also, you may use this free on-line scanner:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

If it passes all the bug scans, then it's probably spyware. These can help
detect and remove them:

Adaware www.lavasoft.de
Spybot www.safer-networking.org

This one can help you avoid these programs from being installed in the first
place:
Spyware Blaster: www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
