I am attempting to install SP2 on a XP Pro machine. When I try I get the
following errors.
First, I get a “Setup cannot copy the file type .wav†error. When I click
on cancel it says it will continue with the setup without coping this file.
I get this error for the next 6 or more files then it continues with the
process.
After sometime I get another Copy Error dialog box. This one says “An error
occurred while copying file xpmsgr.chm. Cannot copy file to destination
directory.†This time when I click on cancel it states that the SP2 install
will cancel and does. During the closing of the process I get another window
stating “the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.â€
I have tried the following, none which worked.
I ran SFC /scannow. Problem still occurs.
I tried to install in safe mode. No luck.
I disabled Anti-virus programs. Still no luck.
I tried to do the update via Microsoft’s website and directly from a SP2 CD.
Same error for both procedures.
I need to get this computer up to date, but can’t get past this error.
Any advice or ideas are appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
