SP2 install problem: Setup cannot copy...

When trying to install SP2, a box comes up that says, "Setup cannot copy
d3d9.dll". When I search for the file, it's right where it's supposed to be,
in windows\system32, but setup apparently doesn't recognize it. If I cancel,
the installation aborts. When I exit and restart the installation, it says
can't find a different file. How do I get past this?
