Sorting photos

After downloading over a hundred photos from a digital camera, they need to
be sorted and selectively moved into the apropriate subfolders, depending on
subject matter.
As this is quite a common ocurrance I wondered what application made it the
easiest to do the selection and moving process.
I am using XP.

Thanks

I'd think any app that has a thumbnails mode. I use IrfanView, a freeware
viewer. From the thumbnails page you can copy or move to other folders, and
it also has a "lossless JPEG rotation" function - prety handy unless your
camera has that capability.

Windows XP is great for pictures. In the Windows Explorer (not the Internet
Explorer) click the "Views" and "Thumbnails". Tweak UI allows you to adjust
the thumbnail size as you wish.

I used to try to categorize my pictures by subject, but it got too
cumbersome. Instead, I name and date my pictures "Picture.nn.jpg" and put
them in folders named YYYY,MM,DD. That way they sort nicely. When I need to
find a certain photo, I know the approximate date, and don't have but 2 or
3 folders at the most to search through. I use Firegraphic, which enables me
to view my photos full screen, very quickly.
