Problems with downloading photos with Scanner and Camera Wizard

I have a Sony DSC-H1 camera, and recently Adobe has decided to be the default
application for importing photos from my camera to the PC. Previously when I
plugged my camera in via the USB, the scanner and camera wizard would start
up automatically and I would select the option "copy photos to my folder" but
now Adobe launches and takes over. I deleted the Adobe program hoping that
this would help but no luck instead now now when I turn on my camera nothing
happens.

When I click on the Scanner and Camera wizard it says "the computer cannot
detect the scanner or camera... please make sure the device is turned on and
is properly connected to the computer. If the computer still cannot detect
the device, open Control Panel, click Scanners and Cameras, and then click
Add Device.

So I tried that and our camera is not listed and we do not have a disc for
our camera. What do I do next? I would be grateful for your help as I have so
many photos to download.

Try this:

First, make sure your camera is plugged in and turned on. Some cameras have
a setting in their menu to change settings when downloading to computer.
Check documentation for that. ( you can probably download a users manual
from Sony if you don't have one).

Then reboot. Maybe Windows will see it and install it automatically if your
camera is plug-n-play. If it is not, you will have to install it using the
instructions that came with the camera. My computer/Control Panel/install
hardware.

-or-

Go to Start/help and type in 'installing camera or scanner'.

Try going to the Sony site and see if there is any software for your model.
While there, check around for a faq section in the support area and see if
there is any info on your problem...

I'm curious if you ever resolved this problem. I also have a Sony DSC-H1 and
always received the Microsoft scanner and camera wizard autoplay when I
inserted the memory stick to my computer. Now, the autoplay doesn't come up.
The hourglass blinks briefly when the memory stick is inserted but otherwise
nothing happens. I've worked with HP but we've been unable to find a fix for
the computer. I also worked with Sony. They were able to get the wizard up
by using the USB cable with the camera set to the USB - PTP mode (not the
"normal" mode as suggested in the manual). However, I'd still like to get
the wizard working as it did before by inserting the memory card directly to
the drive. Any suggestions?

Chances are that you are way beyond the
following info but I thought it couldn't hurt to
post it anyway:

Something to try...

Go to...My Computer...

Right click the icon for the drive in
question. For example...a card
reader may be listed as:
Removable Disk (E:)
(if you have a multi-card reader
you may have several...E, F, G, etc)

Choose....Properties / Autoplay tab.

Open the Content Type drop window
and choose Pictures.

Tick...'Select an action to perform'

Left click the "Restore Defaults" button / Apply / OK.

The application that runs when you double click any file is determined by
the program that is associated with the particular file type. Hence, before
doing anything else, you should review the file associations.

You modify file associations via the folder options tab in Windows explorer
or the same tab in the control panel.

And, all that deleting the program will do is further muck up your system.
