Sony MVC-CD1000 Locks

This camera operated fine with 98SE. I now have XP Pro. When I plug the camera into the USB the computer finds it but will not access it. The camera locks up every time until powered off. Sony is no help with this issue. Their answer is "we do not provide or support the software shipped with the camera". Never purchase a Sony, once they have your money you are up the creek.

Simply go to the following Sony site:
http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...YrrC5SY=?page=/static/support/sy_support.isml
Click on Product support and then downloads.
Enter your product (digital imaging) and model and you will get the download
file for your MVC-CD1000.
The download file is MVCDV160E.exe

It is for connection via USB on Windows 2000. It will work on XP. While
installing, you will get the message that it is not approved for XP. Just
click on Continue.
If it is a Sony, you can count on it!

Count on what, that it only has a 90 day warranty when other digital cameras
come with a year? Or count on it using some bizarre, mechanical storage
method such as a CD burner or floppy disks instead of solid state storage
(or their own memory that costs more)? Or that you'd better check to see if
that's a model where they forgot to put in an actual viewfinder, so you have
to hold the camera out in front of you and look like a tourist whether you
want to or not, in bright sun or when you want to be discreet about
shooting?

Yep, you can count on it. 8^)

You missed the point.
Chuck's camera is pre XP.
Should Sony provide software update?
I think they should, and they did. He simply did not know where to look for
it.

Bizarre storage method like a CD burner?
You will be surprised to find that this camera, released in 2001, was (and
still is) very popular with people taking photos of still objects for
documentation, such as real estate agents. They love it, plenty of storage
space.
