someone in office played trick on me with logon screen

I thought it was the splash screen that had been changed but I removed that
from start up.
There is what appears to be a photo (sports team - his team) that is there
when xp logs
on, (after the splash screen), and when it shuts down. I can't find where
this screen is.
I got WindowBlinds and tried to fix it but that didn't work. I have been
googling for
hours on how to remove screens from xp or change them but I can't find this
screen.

Thanks!!!

Help PLEASE!!!

I believe you need to edit the registry for this. I wanted to actually add a
wallpaper on the login screen but in your case, you want to remove it.

-- Start -- Run -- regedit
-- HKEY USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
-- Double click the wallpaper value, and remove the value data (sports team
wallpaper)
-- Hit OK

The value is "NONE". The photo comes up right after the windows logo and
also when I close
the computer down, it is the last image I see and stays there for at least
10+ seconds as the system
closes down.

Thanks for any help with this!!!

Wow....I thought that was the one because I use that to display a different
wallpaper when I login and logout. And yes, it shows up right after the
Windows Logo and when I shut down my computer. If it is not that then I hope
someone else knows how to fix it.

I had something similar happen. Try going to the display properties and
for background select none then reboot. Then go back and select the
background you would like to display. Don't know if it will work in
your case but it worked for me.

I tried that first. I have background as none. That doesn't relate to the
screen I
am seeing.
Thanks

There are other screens you can change during boot up. One way has to deal
with boot.ini file and another file you put an image in. I can't recall all
of it but these link talks about
boot.ini. Check yours (c:\boot.ini) to see if it might have been modified.

Thanks, I have actually already done the first procedure but didn't have
nearly
as good a tutorial as that first link provides. No doubt, that would have
saved
me time. BUT, it didn't work. That only changes the splash logo. I could
not
find where NTOSKRNL32.EXE had the right .bmp in it. It is quite the process
to edit the splash screen but I can now do that no sweat. I just can't find
where
they have set this photo to come up when I log off.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great links.

Hi, Marsha,

If you know the name of the file and it has a BMP trailing it.
It will be located in the C:\Windows directory.
You can delete it there.

I went through ntoskrnl32.exe again with resource hacker. I am now fairly
certain that
the offending photo is not in there as a bitmap. And it really has too much
detail to be
a bitmap from there.

That was the very first thing I thought of but this guy is very clever.
I went in to folder options to make sure I could see hidden files and
operating system files. Then looked at every bmp in windows and
then in whole computer, then .gif, then jpg. I haven't found it.

I'm really desperate now. What value can I put in there to try changing it
to something
ANYTHING else??????/

Thanks,

I guess you already tried Search.
All files and folders,
Typing all or part of a file name,
scrolling down to more advanced options,
Search system folders,
Search hidden files and folders.

The only other place I can think of would be to use Regedit,
Edit and Find,
typing a file name and clicking Find next.

I never knew the name of the file. I tried every .bmp, .gif and
..jpg there was on the computer without finding it.
