Some files/folders in fileshare not showing up

I have two machines running XP SP2 on a network. The desktop (XP Pro) has a
few fileshares with things like my music and data backups on it. When
browsing from My laptop (XP Home), not all of the folders, sub-folders and
files show up. If I manually type in the full folder/file paths everything is
still accessible, though. I also have a linux machine on the network that can
view/access everything just fine, which I would think rules out server-side
problems.

Any idea what is causing this, and/or how to fix it?

Possibly this could be caused by KB885250, an update from 2/8/2005 which
can cause file and printer sharing problems under Windows networking.
It has been reported that both SP1 and SP2 boxen are affected. If your
attempt to use shares seems compromised after last week's hotfixes,
remove KB885250.

See this MS Knowledge Base article:

Check in the section "Vulnerability Details, Workarounds" for several
approaches to providing the protection of the hotfix without using the
hotfix.

Thanks, that worked perfectly. It still amazes me how many "fixes" that are
released actually break more than they fix.

I'm very glad it worked for you. Thanks for taking the time to let me
know.
