Error Copying File or Folder

Alec

I have a desktop and wireless laptop connected via
netgear router using filesharing. Both machines have XP
SP2. One has Norton Firewall and NAV, the other has
Windows Firewall and eTrust AV software

I want to copy folders plus contents from the desktop to
laptop. When I drag a folder from a shared directory
onto the laptop, the folder is created but no files are
copied. Get error message;

"Error Copying File or Folder
Cannot Copy <file name>:Cannot find the specified file
Make sure you specifiy the correct path and file name"

However if I open the folder, I can select all the files
therein and drag them onto the lap top.

Thanks in anticipation

Alec,

assuming Windows XP Professional, one possible explanation would
be that the receiving computer has sufficient access rights to
the files, but lacks the right to list the folder content.

Another is that Norton Firewall or one of the antivirus programs
interferes. That's a frequent problem, particularly if the
program versions predate Service Pack 2 or are not properly set
up.

No, both machines are XP Home SP2.

However I don't think I've tried to disable all
Firewalls/AV SW at once (have done one at a time). These
do predate SP2 so maybe there is further investigation
to do here.

Alec,

disabling may not even be enough. You may have to uninstall them
entirely.

Please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.
