SoftCAT now Liteware

I disagree,
From the website:
"The standard version is still freeware"

I agree with the definition liteware. One of the best features,
essential for me to use it, is the automatic scanning of your PC to
list programmes installed. The helpfile says it can do this, but makes
no mention of the fact that you need the payware version to do this.

I think this is dishonest at worst, lazy at best. It means for me,
that SoftCat is either liteware at best, crippleware at worst.

YMMV

I agree with the definition liteware.

Can you name ONE feature from version 1 that has been removed in
version 2? The fact is, even the free version has many new features
compared to version 1. But I guess some wants everything for nothing.

This is mentioned twice in the help file. It is also clearly mentioned
on the web site: http://www.fnprg.com/softcat/freevsplus.html

Perhaps you should actually bother to read the documentation before
you make accusations like that?

So don't use it then.

No - but I want the program to do what the helpfile says - first thing
it pops up in describing how to use it is the autocatalog feature -not
available in the freeware version. As I said, SoftCat is new to me, so
I am not familiar with previous versions.

Maybe - but the first thing a new user will do is look at the helpfile
- most prominent in terms of how to use softcat is the autocatalog
feature.

I read the documentation - it told me there was an autocatalog
feature. Most other freeware or even liteware will pop up a message
saying that this feature is not available in the freeware version. As
I said, lazy not to mention it at this top level - or at worst,
dishonest - perhaps more disingenious.
So don't use it then.

I won't - but I can make up my mind without your opinion - or
certainly the manner in which you describe it.

It certainly does :)

Had the autocatalog feature been as good as it first appeared to
me to be then I would have been tempted to pay for a copy.

Not now. FWIW here is my question to them, and their answer ;
"Suppose one had eight .exe files in a folder. Three are compressed
files and five are extracted files. How many would Softcat
auto-catalog ? Just five ? Or all eight ?

One, the biggest file."

Regards, John.
