slow start up -have to wait for message "no firewall found"

My pc is slow starting up. Always has been. Its a 3 year old Dell. At 1st I
thought it was Nortons antivirus security package preloaded. So I uninstalled
it. That help some After I replaced it with nod 32.
I still have to wait for this error message before I can access most
programs.
I can't get onto the internet until this pops up. I have dsl but I still
have to connect to the internet just like I'm on dial up. Thats the way my
house is wired so the phone company says.
I have the firewall turn on by the way. I'm only using the default windows
firewall.
How can I speed things up. It can be 5 minutes before I am able to connect
to the internet or load any major programs.
Is there anything in regedit I can look for, Or perhaps startup to
eliminate this?

Leave Regedit alone. Go to: Start>Run>type MSCONFIG and press OK.
Now click the Startup tab and see ALL the items that are checked.
Uncheck any you do not want to start, disable them, except your
Anti-virus program>Click Apply>Close and reboot. Hope it helps. :~)
Also, CLEAN your system, such as deleting Cookies by running
Disk Cleanup at Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools.
There are many more, but this is a start.
