Sleeping auto updater

I current have version 1.0.615. I have no problems with it except that the
auto updater has never functioned. It is currently set to check for updates
daily at 11:00 AM. I read in this newsgroup yesterday that new definitions
were available (5751) so I decided to see if they would automatically
download today at 11:00 AM. Well, that time came & went and nothing
happened, so I went ahead and manually clicked the update button and all
went well. I have been following this newsgroup for quite a while and I
don't have most of the problems with MSAS that I keep reading about.
However, I can't remember the last time I received an automatic update or
even a notification.

Any suggestions that I might try? If nothing comes to mind, I am content to
continue doing manual checking and wait for new Beta versions to arrive.

Yes, I am using an administrator account. Do you agree or disagree with

So--have you tried the suggestions posted to various threads where you've
made this complaint?

I shut down MSAS from the systray icon. Uninstalled from "Add/Remove" in
Control Panel. Deleted the remaining program directory. Deleted
"gcUncompress.dll" from "Windows\System32" (plus a couple others that stated
they were MS Antispyware files). Ran my XP registry cleaner (RegScrubXP)
and then scanned the registry using Regedit looking for references to
Antispyware & Giant. I removing any that pertained specifically to the
Microsoft Antispyware program. I then retarted the computer. Downloaded
and installed the latest version of MSAS. Restarted the computer. Ran MSAS
setup wizard. Restarted the computer.

All seems fine, but I still haven't seen any automatic update activity. I
set the automatic update feature to "Daily at 11:00 AM"

You won't see update activity until there is an update. Historically, these
have come sometime between Thursday and Saturday, in most weeks.
