shockwave

I am trying to play an online game, and get an error
message that "Macromedia Shockwave player is now
loading...." then another window pops up which
says "Network error. Please check your Internet
connection and try again." I am unable to pass this point.

I am running IE6 with SP1 on a P4 with Win XP. This is a
recent development. I don't recall having this problem
before. I tried to d/l Macromedia shockwave player, and
got the message that the install worked. I searched my
system for "shockwave" and found numerous files..

Anyone have any ideas? Help!

It should be sufficient to use the Object viewer.
In IE press: Alt-T,O,Alt-S,O
Select Shockwave Flash Object. Press Menu-r, Ctrl-Backtab
and read the version information.

Thank you. That did indeed work, and I found the file
along with the version number. HOWEVER, the game still
doesn;t work and I get the same error message. There must
be another program conflicting with IE and/or Shockwave

That doesn't necessarily follow. Have you tried any other shockwave
sites? If they work a more likely explanation is that there is something
wrong with the game, e.g. perhaps it is incompatible with the new version
or perhaps a recent change broke it. Does the game have a support
page?

A link would aid discussion if you need more help.
