Sharing Internet Between 2 NICs? Possible?

So, I have an Ethernet card that is hooked up to a cable connection and I
have a USB WiFi Adapter...Is it possible to have them on at the same time and
can I designate which programs use what connection? Is this even possible...?
I've tried the 'Network Bridge' and that's not what I'm after.

Could you not plug both machines into a router? My router has 4 sockets
for network connections.
