Service Pack 2

I have twice tried to install Service Pack 2 - Once via download and then
using a Microsoft CD. Both times the install "freezes" when it says
"checking registry." I would like to install SP 2 but don't know how to fix
the problem. (XP Home edition with SP1 is current operating system).
